MANHATTAN, NEW YORK – A 28-year-old man was stabbed in the back in an unprovoked attack on Thursday evening outside the John Jay College of Criminal Justice building in Manhattan, according to New York police.

The incident occurred around 7:10 p.m. in front of the building on 10th Avenue, near the intersection of West 59th Street — home to Haaren Hall, a historic campus building and host to the world's largest criminal justice library.

The victim was stabbed once in the back and transported across the street to Mount Sinai West Hospital. Officials stated his condition is stable. Police have not yet determined if the victim has any affiliation with the college.

Suspect Fled, No Arrests Made

The suspect fled southbound on 10th Avenue immediately after the attack. As of Friday evening, no suspect description has been released, and no arrests have been made.

The building where the incident occurred was constructed in 1903 and, in addition to the library, houses classrooms, faculty offices, a theater, a swimming pool, and a gym.

Police are continuing their investigation.
