Shasta County, California – June 10, 2026

An election worker in Shasta County, California, is under investigation after allegedly unauthorizedly accessing a locked ballot storage cabinet and copying election-related documents.

County officials confirmed the incident was discovered during the reconciliation of early voting records following the recent election.

According to a statement from Shasta County, staff discovered discrepancies during data review, indicating that a small number of additional ballots may have been issued to voters before Election Day by an employee.

The incident occurred on June 4 at the Shasta County Elections Office in Redding.

During the review, election documents and records were stored in a locked cabinet inside the office. However, according to local officials, when the responsible staff temporarily left, another employee took these documents, copied them, and handed them over to Shasta County Clerk and Registrar of Voters, Mr. Clint Curtis.

Officials emphasized that no original ballots or official election documents were removed from the building.

However, the copied documents may contain sensitive voter information such as names, addresses, dates of birth, phone numbers, signatures, and information provided when requesting ballot reissuance.

Shasta County stated that the incident has been reported to the Office of the California Secretary of State for review within their jurisdiction.

As election-related investigations fall under state jurisdiction, the county has not yet taken any legal action pending the state agency's assessment.

The identity of the employee under investigation has not yet been released.

Officials have also not confirmed whether election fraud occurred in this incident.

The related election results are expected to be officially certified on June 26.
