Iran is closer to change than ever before
LOS ANGELES — Noor Pahlavi, granddaughter of the late Shah of Iran Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, believes Iran is closer to change than ever before, as domestic protests continue alongside increasing international pressure.
In an interview, she described what she called a crackdown campaign targeting protesters, doctors, and even children in Iran.
"Imagine this happening to your own country. It's a regime that's waging war on its own citizens."
Family Legacy and Opposition Role
Noor Pahlavi is the daughter of Reza Pahlavi, who has for years called for Iran to transition to a secular democracy. Her family left Iran after the 1979 Islamic Revolution, when Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi was overthrown and Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini rose to power.
According to her, the Iranian people are not seeking superficial reforms but a fundamental change in the political system.
"The demand for regime change cannot be emphasized enough. People are sacrificing for something specific."
International Pressure and President Trump's Stance
These statements come as President Trump escalates pressure on Tehran, deploying additional military forces to the Middle East and issuing a 10-day ultimatum.
Noor Pahlavi believes that pressure from both within and outside Iran has weakened the Iranian regime more than ever. She stated that many Iranians are closely monitoring U.S. actions and hoping for international support.
The Iranian Community in Los Angeles
Los Angeles is home to the largest Iranian community in the United States, particularly the Westwood area, often called Tehrangeles. Noor Pahlavi believes this community demonstrates the potential when Iranians live in a free environment.
"A free Iran will produce much more of that."
She stated that her family is ready to return if given the opportunity:
"The moment Iran is free, my entire family will come home."
Context of Protests in Iran
Protests in Iran have erupted due to economic dissatisfaction, water crisis, and various social issues. Reports from several international organizations indicate that recent crackdowns have caused significant casualties, though precise figures remain debated.
While Iran's political future remains uncertain, voices like Noor Pahlavi continue to contribute to the global debate on the country's next direction.
