SANFORD, Florida – A 49-year-old teacher in Sanford was arrested on allegations of sexually abusing an 18-year-old former homeless student after the student moved in with her.
According to court records, Mackenzie McLean, a teacher at Crooms Academy of Information Technology, is accused of repeatedly abusing the student over approximately two months since the student moved in with her in March 2024.
Allegations from the Investigation
Investigation documents state that the victim claimed McLean often provided alcohol to get the student heavily intoxicated before the alleged abuse occurred.
The student said they resisted multiple times and stated the acts were wrong but felt compelled to endure due to fear of losing housing and financial support.
Police also stated that a 16-year-old female student accused McLean of providing illicit substances such as alcohol, THC edibles, and Adderall to students.
Legal Status
McLean has worked for Seminole County Public Schools for nearly 25 years and has been placed on administrative leave following her arrest.
According to jail records, she has been charged with:
- Two counts of unlawful sexual activity with a student by a person in a position of authority
- One count of controlled substance distribution
Bond was set at $35,000. The defendant is scheduled to return to court on March 31.
School District's Response
The school district issued a statement asserting that all allegations of misconduct would be handled seriously and promptly, emphasizing that the safety of students and staff is a top priority.
