A high school in Perris was placed under a “shelter-in-place” order after a loaded firearm was discovered on campus.
According to the Val Verde Unified School District Police Department, authorities conducted a check at Orange Vista High School around 10 a.m. and seized a gun.
A student was arrested at the school and removed from the campus. Authorities stated the individual will be transported to a Riverside County juvenile detention facility.
No additional weapons were found during the search.
The Riverside County Sheriff's Department, along with a bomb squad and K9 units, assisted at the scene.
Officials confirmed there is no immediate threat to students or staff; however, the incident continues to raise concerns regarding school gun safety.
The incident occurred just days after a similar occurrence at the same school, where another gun was discovered. It remains unclear if the two incidents are related.
