GWINNETT COUNTY, Georgia – A man died at the hospital Thursday evening, February 19, 2026, after being shot by Gwinnett County police while responding to a domestic violence call in the Oaktree Meadows subdivision, Lawrenceville.

Incident Details

According to initial information from officials, officers were responding to a call at a residence in the 600 block of Oaktree Park Court NW.

When law enforcement arrived, a man reportedly ran out of the house and charged at them with a knife in his hand. Police ordered the man to drop the knife, but according to reports, he did not comply. Officers then fired their weapons.

The man was struck by gunfire and transported to the hospital, where he later died.

Investigation Underway

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has taken over the investigation, following standard procedure for officer-involved shootings.

Two officers from the Gwinnett County Police Department have been placed on administrative leave pending the investigation.
