Temperatures Plummet from 80°F to 20°F
Residents across North Georgia experienced a dramatic "whiplash" in weather Monday morning as temperatures plummeted to the 20s, just 48 hours after the region hit record highs near 80°F.
Today's Forecast
High: 42°F. Strong winds will make it feel like the 20s.
Tonight: Low of 26°F, clear skies, freezing temperatures.
Coming Days: A warming trend begins Tuesday, potentially reaching near 71°F by Sunday.
Flurries in North Georgia Mountains
In the North Georgia mountains, the cold air was more apparent. Residents in Union County reported early morning flurries at Butternut Creek Golf Club near Blairsville. While no snow accumulation is expected, the phenomenon clearly reflects February's volatility.
Cold Weather Advisory
In metro Atlanta, wind gusts of 20–30 mph will create a wind chill in the single digits and teens. Despite sunny skies, higher elevations could see gusts up to 40 mph, keeping "feels like" temperatures in the 20–30°F range for much of the afternoon.
A positive outlook emerges for the weekend as spring-like weather returns, with temperatures reaching the 70s. Forecast models indicate the region will be back in the 60s by Wednesday, before potential rain on Thursday.
