Early Morning Shooting Follows Street Brawl

RICHMOND, Virginia — Two people are dead and seven others injured following a shooting that occurred around 2:45 AM in Richmond's entertainment district, local police confirmed.

Police Chief Rick Edwards stated that the incident escalated after a street fight broke out in the historic Shockoe Bottom area, known for its restaurants and nightclubs in Richmond.

A man and a woman died at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds. Seven other victims, comprising three men and four women, were transported to the hospital for emergency treatment of their bullet wounds.

At Least Two Shooters Involved, No Arrests Yet

According to Chief Edwards, a patrol officer on duty nearby witnessed "a large commotion" and multiple vehicles fleeing the scene at high speed.

"It appears a fight started, other people intervened, and then shots were fired," Chief Edwards stated during a press conference, confirming that at least two shooters were involved in the incident.

As of now, authorities have not confirmed any arrests of suspects.

Female Victim Fatally Hit by Stray Bullet During Birthday Party

According to WTVR-TV, at the time of the shooting, several family members were gathered in the Shockoe Bottom area celebrating a birthday. A woman from the family group was reportedly hit by a stray bullet and died.

Police Continue Investigation

Richmond City Police announced that an investigation is underway to determine the specific cause of the shooting, the full identities of the victims, and the individuals involved.
