Armed Suspect with Fuel Can Breaches Security Perimeter
A man in his 20s carrying what appeared to be a shotgun and a fuel can was shot early Sunday after breaching a security perimeter at the Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, according to an announcement from the United States Secret Service.
The incident occurred around 1:30 AM at the north gate of the property in West Palm Beach. Secret Service agents, in coordination with a deputy from the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office, opened fire after the suspect advanced into the heavily secured area.
President Trump Not Present at Mar-a-Lago
At the time of the incident, President Donald Trump was not at Mar-a-Lago. He remained at the White House after attending the Governor's Dinner on Saturday evening with the First Lady.
The suspect's identity and motive have not been disclosed. Authorities have also not revealed further information about the individual's background or purpose.
FBI Investigates, Secret Service Agents on Administrative Leave Pending Investigation
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is coordinating with the Secret Service and local law enforcement to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the incident. Secret Service personnel involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave, a standard procedure, pending the outcome of the investigation.
